Shawn Burket, a 43-year-old resident of Grand Junction, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute and for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. The indictment was issued on October 4, 2023, and Burket was taken into custody on November 14, 2023. Court documents indicate that the alleged offenses occurred in Clear Creek County around August 2, 2023.

If convicted of the narcotics charge, Burket faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison. He is currently being held in federal custody while awaiting trial.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Idaho Springs Police Department led the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Al Buchman is prosecuting the case.
