Zachary Robert Rodrick Jones, a 36-year-old resident of Denver, has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison. This follows his guilty plea to charges including the burglary of a United States Post Office, possession of stolen mail, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The plea agreement reveals that Jones was involved in the burglary at the Dacono Post Office around April 6, 2022. Items taken during this incident included computer equipment, postal service keys, employee files, and postal applications.

On May 1, 2022, United States Postal Inspection Service inspectors contacted Jones. He was found with various items from the Dacono Post Office as well as stolen personal and business mail. Additionally, he had a Smith & Wesson handgun despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to his status as a convicted felon.

Acting U.S. Attorney J. Bishop Grewell emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust in the U.S. Postal Service: “The public entrusts the U.S. Postal Service with the safe handling of valuable and important mail,” he stated. “Criminals who undermine that trust will be prosecuted.”

Steve Hodges, Acting Inspector in Charge for the Denver Division of the United States Postal Inspection Service highlighted their commitment: “Protecting the integrity of the U.S. mail and ensuring the safety and security of the U.S. Postal Service… is core to our mission.” He added that this sentencing underscores their dedication to justice.

United States District Judge Charlotte N. Sweeney oversaw Jones’s sentencing while Assistant United States Attorney Albert Buchman led prosecution efforts for case number 25-cr-00108-CNS.
