The Colorado Judicial Department announced on April 1 that it has opened the application period for fiscal year 2026-27 grants from the Family Violence Justice Fund. The grants are available to nonprofit organizations in Colorado that assist low-income individuals experiencing family violence.

The program is significant because it supports organizations that provide legal services to those who may not otherwise have access to representation in cases involving protection orders, divorce, child custody, and other related judicial actions. Funding helps ensure that vulnerable populations receive support navigating complex legal matters tied to family violence.

According to the department, successful applicants must demonstrate experience offering legal services and representation in relevant areas such as protection orders or child support. Grants are distributed using a geographic formula based on local need and the number of low-income residents who might require assistance across counties and cities in Colorado. For fiscal year 2025-26, sixteen organizations received a total of $2.1 million; funding for the upcoming cycle is also expected to be $2.1 million.

Applications must be submitted through the Office of the State Court Administrator’s grant management system by 5 p.m. on April 30, 2026; late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
